Privacy notice

Who we are

The Black Olive, 150 High St, Princes End, Tipton DY4 9JA, is responsible for the personal information collected through this website and in our shop. To ask about your information, email [email protected], or call 0121 557 2266, or write to The Black Olive, 150 High St, Princes End, Tipton DY4 9JA.

What we collect

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We count visits to this website without cookies: each visit is recorded with the page, the site you came from and a code made from your internet address and browser that changes every day, so we can't recognise you from one day to the next. These counts are deleted after 90 days. If you type your phone number or email at checkout but don't finish your order, we may keep your basket and send you one reminder about it (not if you've said no to offers, and you can stop these at any time from the link in it). Saved baskets are deleted after 30 days.

Why we use it

Who we share it with

We only share what's needed with companies that help us run the service, who must keep it secure and use it only for us:
- Stripe, which processes card payments (we never see or store your full card details)
- Our website host, which stores the site and its data securely
- Email and text message providers, which send order updates and offers
- postcodes.io, which turns a postcode into a location to work out delivery distance (only the postcode is sent)
- If you turn on notifications, your phone's notification service (Apple, Google or Mozilla) delivers them
Some of these companies are based outside the UK. Where your information goes abroad, they protect it with the safeguards UK data protection law requires.
We never sell your information.

How long we keep it

Order records are kept for six years because tax law requires it. Doorstep photos are deleted after 90 days. If you ask us to delete your details, we remove your name and contact details from our records and keep only what the law requires.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it, including stopping offers at any time. Contact us using the details above. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
